BMW E36 USB & Modular Switch System V7

The E36 switch panel is full of blank covers where optional factory switches would have gone. Rendition’s modular system — USB charger, volt meter and passthrough modules for the E36 — replaces those blanks with modules that add modern functions — without cutting the console or mounting a universal charger somewhere it doesn’t belong. Each module fits the factory switch-panel opening with an OEM-style textured finish (smooth matte on V7), and a rear securing pin locks it in place.

Modules in stock

• USB C (30W) (Rendition part E36-USB-C): a single USB-C port supporting USB Power Delivery (PD 2.0 / PD 3.0), Apple and Samsung fast-charge protocols and Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 / 3.0. Rendition’s V7 update raised USB-C output from 25W to 30W and they sell this module as “USB C (30W)”; their published charging spec card still shows the earlier 25W maximum.
• USB A + C (18W) (E36-USB-AC): dual-port USB-A and USB-C, 18W maximum output, with PD 2.0 / PD 3.0, Apple and Samsung protocols and Quick Charge 2.0 / 3.0.
• Volt Meter Module (E36-USB-VM): a real-time voltage display for keeping an eye on the battery and alternator.
• USB Passthrough (E36-USB-PAS): a head-unit USB extension that brings your stereo or CarPlay head unit’s USB input out to the switch panel.

The charging modules have input and output protection, plus over-current, short-circuit and over-temperature protection. Powered modules come with a 2-pin connector and 18 AWG copper wiring.

Each module fills one switch-blank position — order one for each position you want to use. Rendition also make USB-A, dual USB + volt meter, I/O switch, secondary horn button, 17 mm ball-joint phone-mount bases and blank covers for the same panel; ask us and we can order them in.

Installation

1. Remove the original blank switch cover.
2. Insert the module into the factory switch-panel opening.
3. Slide in the rear securing pin.
4. Connect the included wiring to a suitable 12 V supply (powered modules).
5. Test the function before final assembly.

A standard install needs no cutting, drilling or permanent modification. Rendition recommend ignition-switched 12 V for charging modules unless you specifically want constant power. If you’re not confident with 12 V wiring, have an auto electrician fit it.

• In stock: Australian stock — ships from the Gold Coast in 1–2 business days.
• Install: plugs into the factory switch panel; powered modules need a 12 V connection (ignition-switched recommended). Damage from incorrect wiring is not covered.
• Warranty: 6 months from delivery against manufacturing and material defects (Rendition’s limited warranty). Excludes normal wear and tear, incorrect installation or wiring, and misuse. For any warranty issue, contact EuroSpec with your order number and photos.
